PCOS and PMOS: Two Names for the Same Condition

Polycystic ovary syndrome, commonly called PCOS, is now known as polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS). The newer name reflects its effects on hormonal and metabolic health, not only the ovaries.1

We use both names here so you can find relevant support whether your diagnosis or the resources you have read use PCOS or PMOS.

How a PCOS Dietitian Can Help

PCOS nutrition can get confusing and overwhelming quickly – especially when you’re trying to lose weight, and every online search seems to come up with another food rule or diet plan.

We’ll help you understand what actually matters for your goals and turn that into realistic strategies for meals, cravings, eating out, busy days, and long-term progress.

Understand What Matters Most For Your PCOS

Focus on the priorities that are relevant to you – such as weight loss, muscle gain, meal structure, blood sugar, cravings, cholesterol, or other health goals.

Work Through Cravings and All-Or-Nothing Thinking

Build strategies to help with skipped meals, evening snacking, stress eating, or feeling like one choice has “ruined” the day.

Lose Weight Without Another Restrictive Diet

Build a realistic calorie deficit and eating routine that supports weight loss while still including foods you enjoy, helping you stay full, and making the approach easier to maintain long term.

Make PCOS Nutrition Work In Real Life

Develop a flexible plan for busy workdays, eating out, travel, family meals, cravings, and low-energy days so progress doesn’t depend on eating perfectly.

The goal is a practical PCOS nutrition plan you understand and can stick with – not just another set of food rules.

Personalized PCOS Meal Planning That Fits Real Life

There isn’t one “best” diet for PCOS. Nutrition should be personalized to your goals, health needs, preferences, and lifestyle, rather than built around unnecessary restrictions.2

We’ll help you create a practical meal structure that supports weight loss, fullness, energy, and metabolic health – without making every meal feel complicated.

Build Satisfying Everyday Meals

Combine protein, fibre-rich carbohydrates, vegetables, and fats in portions that support your goals, while keeping meals satisfying.

Plan For Busy and Unpredictable Days

Create realistic options for workdays, takeout, restaurants, travel, and nights when cooking from scratch just isn’t happening.

See how our personalized meal-planning approach can help make healthy eating easier to maintain.

Sustainable Weight Loss with PCOS

Weight loss with PCOS can feel frustrating – especially if you’ve already tried restrictive diets that were hard to maintain, or you simply didn’t get the results you were hoping for.

We’ll help you create a realistic calorie deficit while making sure you’re getting enough protein, fibre, and nutrients to support fullness, energy, and long-term health.

We’ll also look at the habits and patterns that may be affecting your progress – including meal structure, cravings, eating out, busy workdays, and consistency over time.

From PCOS Confusion to a Plan You Can Actually Follow

We start by understanding how PCOS is affecting your eating, weight-loss efforts, cravings, health concerns, and daily routine.

Then we build a practical nutrition strategy around your needs and adjust it as you learn what works best for you.

STEP 01

Identify What’s Actually Getting in the Way

We look at your current eating habits, weight loss history, cravings, blood sugar concerns, challenges you face, and what you’ve already tried, so we can focus on the areas that matter most.

STEP 02

Build Your Personalized Nutrition Strategy

Your dietitian helps you create a practical nutrition plan around calories, protein, fibre, meal structure, portions, and other priorities based on your health needs.

STEP 03

Make It Work in Real Life

We turn the plan into realistic meals, snacks, grocery shopping routines, restaurant choices, and backup options for busy days – so progress doesn’t depend on eating perfectly.

STEP 04

Review Progress and Adjust

Troubleshoot cravings, plateaus, consistency, changing routines, or anything else getting in the way – and adjust the plan as needed.

PCOS and PMOS Nutrition Questions

Should I see a PCOS dietitian or a nutritionist?

In British Columbia, Registered Dietitians are regulated health professionals, while “nutritionist” is not a regulated or protected title in the same way. A Registered Dietitian can provide personalized, evidence-based nutrition support for PCOS based on your health history, goals, symptoms, and lifestyle.

Will I receive a personalized PCOS meal plan?

Personalized meal planning is part of your plan. Rather than giving you a rigid meal plan to follow perfectly, we also teach you how to build meals and portions around your nutrition needs, preferences, and goals so you can learn how to make food choices confidently moving forward on your own.

Can a dietitian help with weight loss when I have PCOS?

Yes. We can help you create a realistic calorie deficit while optimizing areas such as meal structure, protein, fibre, cravings, activity, blood sugar management, and your overall routine. The goal is not just to lose weight – but to do it in a sustainable, non-restrictive way – so you can maintain your results long term.

Do I have to cut out carbohydrates, dairy or gluten?

Not necessarily. There isn’t one “best” PCOS diet, and most people don’t need to remove entire food groups unless there is a specific medical reason to do so. We focus on building an eating pattern that supports your goals, while still including foods you enjoy.

Can nutrition support fit alongside metformin or a GLP-1 medication?

Yes. We can provide nutrition and weight loss support alongside medications such as metformin or a GLP-1. Your plan will account for changes in appetite, weight loss goals, protein needs, blood sugar management, symptoms, and other health priorities. Medication decisions themselves should be made with the healthcare professional prescribing or managing your treatment. See here for more details on GLP-1 nutrition support .

Do I need inositol or other PCOS supplements?

Not everyone with PCOS needs a supplement. We can help you look at your overall nutrition first and discuss whether supplements are relevant to your goals and health needs. If you take medication, are pregnant, or are trying to conceive, it’s also important to review supplements with your healthcare provider.

What happens during the complimentary consultation?

We spend about 20 minutes discussing your goals, what you’ve been struggling with, and the kind of support you’re looking for. We’ll explore whether it may be a good fit to work together. If it is, we’ll share next steps. If not, we’ll help point you in the right direction.
